"Feelin' It" is a collection of deep roots reggae songs from Eclectic Roots Ensemble (ERE) recorded with Piper Street Sound (AKA Matt Mansfield) at Piper Street Studios in Atlanta. Cortez Paschal leads ERE and is the lead songwriter, lyricist, and plays most instruments in the studio. Vocalist Bakeem and several other top notch musicians fill out the heavy root reggae sound. Piper Street Sound’s characteristic process of merging styles and crossing genres takes a back seat to pure Reggae grooves on this effort. While there are some instances of Dub effects making their way into the work, mostly it stands as very excellent, truly authentic Roots sound. The riddims are rock solid, exceptional works by the band/producer relationship inherent to true Roots albums. For a first-time collaboration, from a relatively-unknown act, in a small studio, "Feelin' It" constitutes a seminal work. Paschal’s chord structures and songwriting techniques are reminiscent of early 60’s soul, absolutely in line with traditional Roots Reggae. His close-up, semi-whispered vocals in combination with the soul-influenced rhythms are more evocative of Curtis Mayfield than Bob or Burning Spear. Sharing the vocal load, vocalist Bakim’s confident, scratchy tenor serves as perfect foil for Paschal’s style. No more plainly is this point made than on the group’s lead off single "Till Rastafari".
